Celerity, economy and transparency in Government seem to be essential conditions for the public sector proper functioning. Thereby, it is not a few times that excessive bureaucracy prevents citizens from accessing the Public Administration, whether when they need to regularize a situation, seeking justice or participate in decision-making processes. This paper, therefore, aims to explore the conceptions about bureaucracy, a familiar and little understood topic. With this, it is intended to demonstrate that the concept of debureaucratization goes far beyond simplifying procedures; it is related to freedom, human dignity and guaranteeing the quality of being a citizen. In this way, a broad look at bureaucracy and how it affects the lives of individuals allows a greater understanding of the initiatives that make Public Administration more flexible.
